Features of a Rough Emerald
The beauty of the rough emerald also has its value.
Rough is the natural state of emeralds before they are cut. Rough emeralds usually crystallize in a hexagonal shape, sometimes more random patterns appear, often called "floating".
Some people contemplate the beauty of a rough emerald even more than its polished counterpart, particularly appreciate the "finished" pieces of rough exhibiting clean tips in the hexagonal crystal.
Many of the world's most notable emeralds are stones still in their raw state. These include Devonshire Emerald and Itoco Emerald. With these unique pieces, it often happens that they are so rare that the stones are worth more as raw specimens than if they were molded in cut stone.
